Tūmanako - Akau Tangi Sports Trip

Annabelle Schmid —

On April 1, Tumanako set out on a trip to Akau Tangi for a sports day.

At 9:00, three buses came by and picked up the students and teachers, and took us out to Kilbirnie. Once we arrived at the sports centre, we settled in and got into our six organized groups. At 10:30, all the groups had their first event, which was one of the following: Korfball, dodgeball, Ki-o-rahi, futsal, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee.

After the first three events, all the teams returned to their bags and had lunch. Following the well-deserved lunch break, all the teams then returned to the courts for their final three events. After all six teams went to all six stations and finished all their events, they once again returned to their bags and had a little break to catch their breath and rest a bit.

At around 2:00, everyone went back to their respective buses and settled down for the trip back to school. The time was around 2:40 when Tūmanako finally arrived and got off the bus. From there, the last 15 minutes of the afternoon were spent in the classroom, talking and relaxing.

I personally enjoyed futsal the most for a variety of reasons. It was amazing seeing everyone have fun playing together, and I also really love futsal and football as a sport. In one of the games, a helper/coach from Akau Tangi joined my team for a round, and it was amazing because he and I worked together really well and scored a beautiful goal together. It was such an amazing and unforgettable day altogether.
