Ngā Manu Nature Reserve

Rain Nandwani —

An eye witness account.

I went to Ngā Manu with the Ngā Kākano group. Jade, Joy, Anthony, Tawhiti and Erik were in my group. Mrs Cooper and Marty showed me where to go to see the birds, and we went to the aviary first. It had two doors. We went through one and we closed it before we opened the next door so we wouldn't let the birds escape. The parrots flew past my head, it gave me a fright.

I saw a parrot - the kākāriki. It was green and yellow and it flew fast. It squawked at me. Then the parrot flew so close I could feel its wings. We stayed in the aviary for a long time watching the birds. We left the aviary to see the kiwi.

Ngā Manu was fun. l liked the ducks the best.
