Global Play-day 2022

Emily Kemp —

Freedom, creativity, and fun are key aspects to the growth of a child.

Newlands Intermediate embraces this, consequently taking part in Global Play-day. Global Play-day is an annual event taking part in schools around the world. It supports the unregulated play of students, where students can freely mix with each other and create lasting bonds. While we haven’t had our full Global Play-days, the syndicate afternoons were still very entertaining.

Our global Play-day afternoons were on the 9th and 10th of February (Wednesday and Thursday afternoons). Despite the unbearably hot weather, Nga Wawata was excited, as we had over an hour to play. There were many different options - boardgames, sports, the playground, not to mention the freedom of our own games.

I hung out with a few of my peers from last year, and it was great being able to connect with them again. The photo above is us three, (Raeleigh, me, and Sienna).

I learnt how important it was to connect with old friends. Of course, you will not always have the same friends, however I think it is a great feeling when you can start talking, laughing, and sharing memories again. I am excited for the full play-days!
