Pride in School Bake Sale

Jeshna Madaan & Selena Sun —

Whenever there is rain you'll find a rainbow (cupcake).

June 13th - 19th was Pride Week for Newlands Intermediate School this year. With students volunteering to bake, sell, and advertise for the Pride bake sale, the whole event went very smoothly. Everyone's hard work paid off; we raised $630 for InsideOut, a charity that works to support LGBTQIA+ youth.

Students baked various delicious baked goods such as cookies, cupcakes, muffins, slices, meringues, and rocky road. In relation to Pride month, the students who volunteered stuck to a colourful rainbow theme for the pride bake sale. This was to show our support as allies of the many NIS students who identified as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

As well as celebrating the diverse community that we have here at Newlands Intermediate School, we also showed our inclusiveness by embellishing the whole school with rainbow pride related decor.

Thank you to Alyx’s Sweet Bakery and William Yip for the donation of 100 rainbow cupcakes towards the bake sale.
