From the Principal
Term 2 has flown by. Despite the weather, the construction on site, the level 2 Covid alert, and higher levels of illness in staff and students, we have managed to achieve nearly all we planned for.
The added bonus this week was a Zoom call with BJ Watling, the retiring New Zealander cricketer, currently in MIQ. Aaron Cope won a competition to speak with a cricketer so his class and the school cricket team spent some time having a chat and asking questions.
Highlights of the term for me have been approval and funding for the construction of a bike track, the prefab progress and the connections we have made with other teachers who visit us almost weekly to talk about our local curriculum.
Last week we had a very successful Open Evening for our year 6 families. Our student ambassadors were outstanding and the feedback from parents has been very positive.
Over the holiday break we are having several large trees removed from the school grounds, the canopy replaced, the front entrance to the office area improved and the prefabs completed. We are optimistic our 4 classes will be able to move into the new prefabs in the first few days of term 3.
Next term we will focus on the Sexuality Education programme that is an essential part of our overall health and wellbeing curriculum. We invite parents and caregivers who would like to know more about this programme to a meeting here at school on Thursday July 29th at 6pm.
It is with some sadness that we farewell Lucy Ong from our teaching staff this week. Amelia Mazur is the new teacher in room 10. We wish Lucy all the best for her future.
I hope you are enjoying reading about school life as written by our students in this new Newsletter format. We are very pleased to see our students' enthusiasm to write for an authentic purpose and showcase new writing skills.
I hope everyone has a restful holiday break. Term 3 begins on July 26th.
