Te Ao Marama Chess Tournament
Be a check mate and check this out!
A few weeks ago, Mr Miskimmin set up a chess tournament for all the chess lovers in Te Ao Marama. He made a knockout tournament sheet and put it on the board in the shared learning area. We could write our names up if we wanted to be in it. The playoffs were held on Friday mornings and there were 32 students to start off with. It then went down to 16 and then to 8 and then to 4 and then to the finals of 2 people.
This morning (1st April) was our ULTIMATE PLAYOFF FOR FIRST POSITION.
The 2 players playing off were Josh Morgan from room 12 and Rashid Obaid from room 11. The board was set up and the board was checked before the players began.
It was a very quick match. Josh reported, "I was nervous. I was literally shaking." Rashid said "I felt nervous and excited at the same time."
Both players lost 2 pawns and the winning move was made by Josh. It was a Bishop and Queen combination. The players shook hands and are now looking forward to another tournament being set up in term 2.
