The Wellbeing of Pasifika Children
New Zealand children, particularly Maori and Pasifika, have one of the highest rates of dental decay and diet-related health conditions. A project has been launched to better understand these conditions and to develop an intervention programme with Pasifika aiga and whanau.
We have been asked to support this project by encouraging our families to sign up for stage 1. As we look at this term's big idea, Future Selves, it seems a good time to focus on the future health and wellbeing of our Pasifika and Maori young people.
The first phase of the project will involve several thousand children aged 11-13 years old in Wellington. All invitations are sent out through schools.
All information collected will be confidential and no names will be used.
I have assured the researchers from Massey University that our families will be keen to be part of this project.
