West Park Students Wowed By Bees!
At Newlands Intermediate we've created a buzz in our community.
On Thursday the 17th of June a group of fortunate students from Westpark School came to Newlands Intermediate to learn about our love of bees. It was really fun! Leading the learning were some members of our school E4S Warriors: Kaitiaki Pī Team (Aden, Jett, Jacob, Hayley and Natalia).
We harvested honey off the full frames and gave them a tour of the apiscope. The honey was delicious and everyone wanted more, even though honey is actually bee puke! (this same honey is available for purchase from Newlands Intermediate in December!)
While touring the apiscope, a wasp flew in and we got to see how the bees overheated the wasp as a form of defense. We also had a chance to look at the outdoor hives and, surprisingly, none of the visitors were scared. In fact, they actually wanted to get really close, which means they are ready to become future Newlands Intermediate students!
