Between Wednesday, the 13th of March, and Thursday, the 14th of March, the Newlands Intermediate Cricket B team competed in four T20 cricket matches.

On a sunny Wednesday morning, our Newlands Intermediate B team, filled with excitement and joy, departed to Ian Galloway Park to play our first game of the Max Charles trophy.

Max Charles was a student of Newlands Intermediate who tragically passed away, he loved his cricket and was a really nice guy who was very supportive to his teammates. To honour him we play this tournament every year between different intermediates. This year we had two groups of four teams. We were in Pool-A that had teams like Raroa-A, Evans Bay, Fergusson and NIS B team.

Our first match was against Raroa-A, the match didn't go in our favour, they batted first and put up a total of 180 runs. While chasing we lost several wickets before the 10 over break. Then Riyaan and Advik (Y7) helped us to get a total of 70 runs, which was low to overhaul their score.

Our next match was against Fergusson, we bowled first and our bowlers did pretty well to restrict their score to 114. Advik (Y7) did well in bowling taking two wickets in an over. In the second innings we chased their score in 18 overs with Riyaan scoring 47 and Cooper scoring 47 both just unluckily missed their 50s by 3 runs. This match we finally got our first win of the tournament.

The next day we played against Evans Bay, in the first innings they put up a total of 160 runs. Most of our bowlers did their job well and we all were confident to chase their total. In the second innings we couldn’t chase their total and ended up getting bowled out for 90 runs. Riyaan batted well with 20 runs.

Our final game was against Wainuiomata, we batted first and put up a big total of 194. Pranav did well with 50 runs. In the second innings our bowlers did an excellent job of bowling them out for 49 runs. Advaith took the last 3 wickets on the 11th over to finish the game off.

Tawa took the win this year beating Raroa-A in the final with a hat trick of the tournament cups and us coming 5th in the tournament of 8 teams.
