On the 29th of September Newlands Intermediate boys A basketball team went and competed at Te Rauparaha Arena for the Inter intermediate tournament for the Wellington region. We were expecting very challenging games and very tough teams to play against, but we came into this tournament with a win-type mentality and also to get out there and have fun. Every game throughout the tournament was getting harder and harder. We beat every team that was in our group and made it to the quarterfinals vs Naenae intermediate. This game was gonna be very tough since they were one of the best teams in the tournament. It was a very competitive game but we won 6-4. Naenae was a very good team. It was a defensive game which is why the score was so low but we made it to the semi-finals. Newlands Intermediate vs Tawa Intermediate. It was very close to the last 2 minutes of the game. It was 16-16 then we started scoring and won 21-16. We were so happy we made it to the finals but we didn't want to stop there so we were focused and ready heading into the finals. The final was between Newlands Intermediate vs Hutt Intermediate. Hutt was the best team in the whole tournament so we expected nothing but a very tough and competitive game. The game started off close in the first half it was 18-14 to Newlands. So we came into the second half nice and confident. We took a big lead and won 35-21. We were all jumping around and so proud of ourselves that we won the tournament! They gave us the trophy and we raised it high, proud of ourselves. We finished the game and took the trophy back to our school. All the students and teachers were very proud of us.
