125th Anniversary of the National Council of Women
Newlands Intermediate Kapa Haka proudly performed at this auspicious occasion.
On the 13th of September our Kapa Haka extension group performed in the banquet hall of the Beehive. For the 125th anniversary of the NCW (National Council of Women), whose purpose is to improve the status of women leaders and organisations in leadership. Our group was there to support and whakatau the council. We were chosen because one of the people sorting the event out was Pat Vincent who used to work here years ago.
The Kapa haka bracket consisted of Hutia, Kua rongo, Ko matou, Kapanapana, Tika Tonu, and Ko te moko. We performed our first song, then sat down and after a couple people talked we finished our performance. Our roopū didn’t end up staying until the end of the event and left parliament after our bracket was finished. Preparing for the event was definitely a bit nerve-wracking but most of us had a good time by the end.
