Bring our ideas to the stage in EPICA

Learning about how we can make a difference through the performing arts.

This year, we have a new programme at school - EPICA: the Extension Programme In Creative Arts. We had to audition and apply to get into EPICA at the start of the year and once we did we discovered that we were going to stage an entire show from start to finish and everything was our job (well, with Whaea Brie and Mrs Cameron’s help).

Our show explores a whole six different ideas about activism including transgender rights, the melting ice in Antarctica, bullying, feminism, and racial equality. We chose the topics ourselves and then brainstormed and developed our storyline. Our performances include acting, film, dance and live music, and we are learning how to use these to get our message across.

One of the biggest challenges has been all the background details that go into make a show - planning the costumes, lighting and organising the music for example. It’s been great fun to extend ourselves in an area that we love.

Our performance got postponed due to lockdown, but we are looking forward to staging it next term.
