"SPEAK UP, STAND TOGETHER STOP BULLYING"
Written and edited by Year 8 students Tamzin & Lola
Pink shirt day began in Canada, in 2007 when two students took a stand against homophobic bullying after one of their classmates was humiliated for wearing a pink shirt.
Now pink shirt day is a worldwide event that encourages the phrase “speak up, stand together and stop bullying.”
Ngatea Primary School decided to get behind the cause and celebrate it in their school, to have a pink shirt day, and to encourage all students to wear pink and be proud of it.
Every single child at least wore something pink from either being a small pink hair tie to even pink socks.
The school even decided to go a mile further and collected a gold coin donation to donate to the Mental Health Foundation to help those with mental health problems.
The school managed to fundraise $282 for the Mental Health Foundation and overall it was a great day filled with positivity, no negativity and lots of pink!
