Kōrero mai!

Noku Te Ao —

Nōku Te Ao are Māori medium centres and as such we are committed to speaking in te reo Māori. This being the case we need your help.

Learning a language is never easy, but what we know about being able to kōrero Māori is first you need to actually use it. Seems simple but all sorts of things can get in the way - whakamā feelings, lack of vocab, lack of opportunities to use it, and then keeping the momentum of speaking up....well, do we have the opportunity for you!

All kaiako at both centres will be reo rumaki ānake i te ata from next week and we need you all to help by trying to only speaking in te reo Māori in our centres. If you need help with kupu, pātai mai! Please do not be shy, we are the last people to be judging and  we are all on the reo Māori continuum as well, so we will be in the same place as you.

If you want to kōrero in English to other mātua, kei te pai tērā, just not on the centre floor.

Help us to help your tamariki learn their beautiful language - all studies show that tamariki who hear te reo Māori in the home are more likely to retain and become fluent because it is normalised for them.

We will be encouraging you with wero and weekly kupu, rarangi & whakatauki/whakatauāki to keep te reo in front of mind :-)

Ngā mihi.
