Mokopuna Ora/ Whānau Navigator

Noku Te AoJanuary 29, 2019

Thanks to Te Pūtahitanga, Nōku te Ao has two grants to help our whānau grow and develop.

The Whānau Navigator is available to help out with things like WINZ, IRD, housing - she will walk with you through these things and other situations. If you need help, let us know.

Mokopuna Ora is specifically to put things into place that will improve the outcomes for our under 5's.  For Nōku Te Ao that means through upskilling mātua. In particular, we are supporting kaiako/mātua to gain early childhood qualifications ( thereby improving tamariki lives by having more Māori medium kaiako available), but we are also doing things to improve the knowledge held by mātua which will impact directly on the wellbeing of tamariki 0 - 5 years.

We have already run a weaving wānanga and will be running another one this year (weaving is a Māori skill- one that upholds tikanga and should be given the same mana as any "Uni qualification" - keeping this knowledge alive for our tamariki is paramount - as Ngai Tahu say - "Mo Tātou, mo kā uri a muri ake nei".); we have run a first aid course for mātua (keeping under 5's alive is fairly important) and this year we will be looking into a course to upskill driving licenses....(no judgement here..).

If you can think of something that would improve the lives of our mokopuna and could fall into this category please let me know :-)
