Book Week 2022 at Te Kura o Matarangi - How Do You Book?

Justin Perriam —

Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. At Te Kura o Matarangi, we have had a wonderful week of fun and excitement to showcase all we love about literacy with a number of events, challenges and dress up.

Photo Challenge

How does your class like to ‘book’? Think of the most creative, unusual, interesting, snuggly place you like to read. Set it up, snap a pic and send it in! Congratulations to Room 7 who took out the award with their pic reading on a digger!

Ponderous Puzzle

Classes were given the challenge to figure out the mystery book character with a maximum of just three clues. The fewer clues required, the more points earned. Ka pai to Room 8 who scored maximum possible points for the week! You are obviously total book worms!

Wall of Wondrous Stories

All students were able to design a book spine of their favourite book and display it on our Wall of Wondrous Stories. It looks fabulous, so is well worth a peek. Ka rawe to Christiaan, Sala, Maya, Peaches, Savanah and Khushi for their amazing entries.

Picture Book Treasure Hunt

It was a happy and enthusiastic vibe during break times as children dashed around the school to find the covers of hidden picture books! Tamariki had to match the clue to the correct book to solve the mystery phrase. We were thrilled to see how our tamariki took on the challenge and also to see tuakana teina (older helping the younger) in action.

Book Character Dress Up

As usual our week was capped off with our Dress Up Parade. What a colourful and varied array of amazing costumes turned up!  Congratulations to everyone for their efforts. Many thanks to all the tamariki, kaiako (teachers) and kaimahi (staff) who made Book Week such a wonderful event and brilliant success!
