Principal Panui
Kia Ora Koutou. It's hard to believe that we are already halfway through the first term!
We have a number of exciting events coming up that you need to add to your calendars. Make sure you don't miss out!
Friday 10th March - Non-Uniform Day / Wheels Day
Thursday 23rd March - 'Celebration of our Learning' Event
Thursday 6th April - Official Opening of our Refurbished School / Last Day of Term One
Learning Posts
A reminder that each term we upload three learning posts for each student onto the HERO App. If you are not currently using the HERO App or need help setting it up please come to the office. Instructions on how to set up the app can be found below.
The first post will be coming out on Friday 10th March, followed by Friday 24th March and Thursday 6th April.
Celebration of Learning
In addition to our HERO posts as a way of whānau connecting to their child's learning, this year we are introducing termly 'Celebrations of our Learning', which will give whānau the opportunity to see learning in action, and the chance to join in and work on an activity with your child. We hope to see LOTS of you at our first event on Thursday 23rd March.
Never underestimate the positive effect coming along to events like this can have on your child. I still clearly remember my Mum coming along to parent help on school trips or events at school.
School Redevelopment
Our school redevelopment is nearly completed. The planting of our gardens will be happening over the next three weeks, along with the installation of the new fencing around the swimming pool. Grass seed is being sown at the front of the school this weekend, with us hopefully being able to use the new pedestrian paths from next Monday.
We will be holding our official opening for our new buildings on Thursday 6th April at 9am. More information on this event will come home closer to the time.
Primary Teachers Contract Negotiations
As you may be aware all teachers and principals across New Zealand are currently renegotiating our collective agreements with the Government. At this stage there is a large gap between what teachers are asking for and what the Government are offering.
Please be aware that the gap isn't just about money. It's about teachers fighting to get the support that our ākonga need and deserve. It's about fighting for a system where the ākonga who need support are able to receive the support without having to wait prolonged periods of time or being told that they 'aren't bad enough' to receive the support. It is likely that given the current state of negotiations that there may be strike action taken by both the primary and secondary school teachers, and while I appreciate that this can be an inconvenience for our families, know that we are doing it ensure that your children receive the best education and support that we can provide.
