Curriculum
Northcote School
We place our ākonga at the centre of their learning, providing opportunities for ākonga agency and ownership. The culture of our ākonga is celebrated and infused throughout teaching and learning. We focus on teaching the foundational skills of English and Maths and weave this knowledge and skills where appropriate.
As a kura we integrate all learning through an inquiry approach. We utilise our local resources and technology to ensure equity for and engagement of our ākonga.
As a kura we are committed to providing our ākonga with rich and varied learning experiences which enhance their sense of belonging and provide them with opportunities to develop holistically.
Our Local Curriculum follows a three year cycle. Each year one theme is focussed on and our learning is explored through the lens of Papatūānuku, Tangaroa, and Ranginui. The theme integrates learning across the curriculum areas. Each year ensures there is coverage of all curriculum areas.
English
We focus on ensuring that our Ākonga have strong literacy foundation, knowledge and skills, that will allow them to thrive as they progress through their education and into the future.
Mathematics
We aim to engage Ākonga in rich mathematical programmes that build confidence and challenge and support Ākonga to develop problem solving skills by taking risks and thinking logically.
