Introducing our new teacher

Justin Perriam —

Today we say farewell to Mr Kapralos, who has been working in a fixed term role at our kura since the middle of last year. Petros has won a permanent role in Kaiapoi, and while he will be greatly missed, we wish him all the best for his next position. Esther Koh has been appointed to take over the teaching role in Room 6. Esther is currently teaching in Wellington, so will be starting her new role with us at the beginning of Term Two.

Kia ora koutou,

A saying on the wall in my high school read, “A doctor’s mistake costs a life, a
teacher’s mistake costs a generation.” That, plus having a dad who was a
teacher resulted in me wanting to be a teacher ever since I remembered
having an ambition.

My first introduction to New Zealand was when I did a twinning programme for
my Bachelor of Education (TESOL) with Victoria University of Wellington. I
fell in love with Aotearoa and knew I would return here. True enough after
starting a family, we came back here where I also did my Graduate of Diploma
in Teaching (Primary) again at VUW.

I started my career in Education as a lecturer in an Institute of Teacher
Education in Malaysia, then worked for the Ministry of Education there. As a
primary school teacher, I came to Amesbury School as I understood the
power of collaboration which enables us teachers to accommodate more
learning styles providing every student a better chance to succeed.

I'm passionate about helping people find their purpose in life and enjoy
challenging them to think for themselves. I find joy in editing and writing
comment articles for Christian Today New Zealand. As a Jack of all trades,
my me-time activities range from baking, composing songs, playing the guitar
and the keyboard, arts and crafts, and with my boys to watching Korean,
Japanese, Cantonese and English dramas.
