The Catholic Diocese of Dunedin, established in 1869 and headquartered at the Catholic Pastoral Centre (300 Rattray Street, Dunedin), serves the southernmost region of Aotearoa, encompassing Otago, Southland, Stewart Island, and the Southern Lakes

Its Catholic Education Office supports 24 primary schools and 4 secondary schools, educating around 5,000 students across the two regions Trinity Catholic College (formerly Kavanagh College until 2023), located in City Rise, Dunedin, is the sole Catholic secondary school in the city, serving Years 7–13. It has a strong community focus and continues the legacy of the Dominican Sisters, Christian Brothers, and Sisters of Mercy.
