The Gears Inside

Year 7/8 Hail —

The gears moved, as if,

A busy hive they were

Each one repeating their tedious tune,

Time, kept, but still rolling ever on.

The sound as if, from deep within,

The quiet heartbeat breaks,

The frail silence.

Desperately keeping time with her slender, white hands.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

The sounds consistently chime,

As if there was a tiny creature,

Working hard inside.

But when you wait, or if you wait,

The sound fades into silence.

As silence swells and struggles against it,

Until, at last the clock stops, and silence reigns again, for now.
