Talent Quest auditions

Excitement and talent flowed through the school this week as Talent Quest auditions began! We had a number of talented and brave students who auditioned in front of a large group of students and the judges at morning tea and lunchtimes.

The New playground!

Much to everyone's excitement the new, year 1-4 playground was officially opened on Monday with all of the school present. Throughout the week all classes have had the opportunity to head out for a play. However, the main part of the playground is only for years 1-4 use during school times. Any other time feel free to give it a whirl yourself! - or leave it to the kids... :)

Sexuality Road Unit

This week we began our Sexuality Road unit. We set the expectations in our Whanau classes, for the lessons to come and discovered what was Unique about US by tracing our hands and writing 5 things that are unique about us in the fingers! We explored a timeline of what it looks like to grow from a baby to an adult and labelled and discussed the parts of the human body.

Here are some things students felt were unique about them:

Zach H: I am unique because... I invent my own football skills, I am good at running, I am good at Maths Whizz - getting my progressions, I am good at FIFA 19 and I am great at reading.

Nicole: I am unique because... I have a lot of family members, Nicole, Jessica and Veronica were very popular names in the olden days, I know 3 languages and I like watching TV.

Maths

The students have been wrapping up Geometry lessons on Shape and Angle in Mathematics. Here is what we have been learning about:

Arman: " I learnt that an Acute angle is the smallest out of all of them. Right angle is exact 90 degrees. Obtuse angle is less than 360 degrees but more than 180. "

Josie: "We have been learning what nets make 3D shapes and using shapes to count the faces, edges and vertices."

Maths Whizz

Congratulations to all of those students who received their Green tick certificate for Maths Whizz. Hub 5 was one of the hubs that saw most students achieve an average of 3 learning progressions a week This means they have accelerated in their Maths-Whizz learning. Please help encourage your child/children with their Maths-Whizz learning at home as much as possible.

Term 4 Te Reo

Our focus for Te Reo this term is on kai(food) focusing on correct pronunciation and bringing in some of the questions such as He aha tēnei? What is this? and He aha tena? What is that over there? Here is one of the vocabulary and picture matching activities we did on Friday.

Reminders:

A notice about our Food for Thought programme and supermarket visit will be sent out next week and parent help forms need to be returned by the 1st of November please. This trip is on the 13th of November.

Next week on Wednesday is the Kauri team Athletics at Nga Puna Wai sports ground. This is a weather dependent event but please make sure your child brings to school:

A warm jacket, pants and appropriate footwear - no singlets
Plenty of food and water
Sunscreen and a brimmed hat
