Next week we will be sending your child home with sight words. These words will help your child with their reading. WE DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO SPELL THESE WORDS. It would be great however if you could work with your child the learn to read these words. Here are some ideas that you could use:

List the words by how many letters there are in each word.

Initial letter alphabetised.

Sort by word ending.

Make another copy and play memory.

Hide them around the house, have a hunt to find them together.

Highlight these words in the newspaper.

The most important thing is to connect these cards to the reading books they are taking home. Have your child find how many words are on a page from their reading book. It needs to be this explicit to allow them to make connections.
