Below is a summary of this weeks learning. This has included Swimming, Prepared Reading, Writing, Sexuality Road and a new focus in Maths.

Swimming

This week the students were swimming on Monday and Wednesday as per the next few weeks too. They were learning key pool safety like how to enter and exit the water. In the pool the students were learning to scull water, lye in the water and then worked on swimming on their back, by only using their legs and feet for propulsion.

Prepared Reading

During Literacy, the students were tasked with choosing a text to read to a group. The challenge was to read it with fluency, expression and presence. From there, some students were selected to read to the whole hub. It was run as a competition and the results were as follows....

Writing

The Iwi group were learning about the language and structure of a Cinquain poem. They looked at a range of examples and then wrote a collection of their own. Here are some examples of students published writing.

Sexuality Road

This week, students have been covering the topic of 'Communication and Decision Making'. They have been learning about making good decisions by identifying possible consequences of their choices first. We also defined the difference between 'fact' and 'opinion'. From there we did some activities where students expressed their opinion on some given topics. 

We wrapped up the learning by ensuring the children were clear about how their opinion was their perspective, and it was OK to disagree with someone else respectfully.

Next week the students will be learning about about the Male and Female reproductive system. This is all about what happens inside the body. We will finish off the learning by discussing the people or places they can go to, if they have questions about this learning.

Maths

To Finish off Maths learning this year the students are learning about Geometry and Measurement. In Geometry they are learning how to plot co-ordinates and in Measurement they will leaning how to measure length, perimeter and area.
