Year 7/8 Hub Update
As the term draws to a close, the year 7/8 Hub remains a hive of activity. Here's what we have in store for the rest of the term.
Technology
This continues as normal each Tuesday at Lincoln Primary. Please ensure that your child is at school by 8:30am on a Tuesday in order to be on time to catch the bus to Technology. This week the students started a new rotation. This new rotation will also continue for the first few weeks of term two. Be sure to ask your child about what they have been up to in their new rotation.
Keeping ourselves safe
We have two sessions scheduled with the Community Constable before the end of the term. We have identified cyber safety as an area of need for our students and the Community Constable will be focussing on this topic during his visits. We will be backing up his teaching with other activities in class as well.
Literacy
In Reading we are wrapping up our first round of novel studies for the year. It has been pleasing to see many students enjoying the opportunity to delve more deeply into a text. We will build on the start that we have made, with a second round of novel study in term 2.
After extensive investigation into values, we are now writing letters to role models that we feel share some of our individual core values. It will be interesting to see who the students select to write to and even more interesting when we start getting replies back. Past experience tells us that this will happen and we are looking forward to going through this writing process.
Maths
In Maths we have been focussing on building our number knowledge. The students have been working hard on both Xtra Maths and IXL and it is pleasing to see many students making good progress. Our expectation is that students will complete at least 5 sessions of Xtra Maths each week as well as logging an hour of time on IXL Maths.
GRIP Leadership and Student Council
The student leaders will be attending this leadership conference on 10 April. This is a fantastic day out for our leaders. They will learn heaps and will also get the opportunity to network with student leaders from a variety of other Christchurch schools.
Student Council has started for the year. The Head Students, the House Captains and the Cultural Ambassadors are automatic members of the Student Council. We also have Harley Green, Joey Williams, Carter Woodgate, Rose Iffland, Blake Castle and Aysha Henderson representing 7/8 LM, BB and SB on the Student Council this year. We look forward to being part of Student Council initiatives this year.
Te Hapua
7/8 LM is finishing up at Te Hapua next week. The students have really enjoyed learning the skills of 3D design and printing as well as the finer art of digital photography. Thanks to all of our amazing parent helpers that have helped us get to and from Te Hapua each week. 7/8 BB will be attending Te Hapua next term. More information to come from Mr Brown about this shortly.
Miss Berquist is getting married!
Miss Berquist will tie the knot these holidays! Miss Berquist will be away for the whole of the last week of term , in the lead up to this exciting occasion. Mrs Stinson will be relieving for her for the week. We are super excited for Sarah and Scott and wish them all the best for their special day.
