First Day Done!

Catherine Corcoran —

We have had a fantastic day in the Year 3 Hub and want to thank you all for the effort you put into having your children organised for the first day.

Swimming Tomorrow (Thursday)
We are swimming tomorrow afternoon so send togs/towels to school.

Arrival Time

The Year 3 Hub spaces are open and the teachers are ready for our whanau and children after the 8:30am bell in the morning. Prior to this time, the teachers are using the last few precious minutes to prepare the learning.

Your child will also benefit from arriving at school well before the 8:55am bell. It can be unsettling for your child, the rest of the hub and the teachers to have a child trying to settle once Whanau Hui has begun.

Snack

As you will have read in information emailed home yesterday. We are making a shift from having a Fruit Break to having a Carb Snack. This is an optional change that is being encouraged across the school.

The Hub 3 children will need to put their healthy snack in their tub before school each day.

Lollies have appeared in a few bags and lunch boxes today. Please keep these as at-home treats.

Drink bottles are essential items in this heat. Please send one to school every day with your child.

( We also noticed that many of our children had eaten most (or all) of their food by the end of morning tea, so it might be a good idea to check with your child to see if they want more food in their lunchbox)

Stationery

We have checked through the stationery today.

  • A few children have come to school without the 1i8 book,  the My Maths Book 1 and/or a tub for their books. These are all available through the eeny meeny website at  a very competitive price. https://schoolpacks.eenymeeny.co.nz/ The 1i8 books are also in good supply at Warehouse Stationery on Blenheim Road and Plastic Box at Tower Junction had many of the tubs available on the weekend.
  • Some children have not brought all of their stationery to school. For example, they have kept two pens at home and sent two to school. We have systems in place to ensure that the children always have pens available, including each child having two pens in their pencil case and a colour coded set of pens kept by the teacher. For our system to work efficiently, we would appreciate, that as requested, all stationery comes to school.

School Uniform

As part of our school CARE values we expect that all of our children will wear the correct uniform to school.

  • Hair items need to be small and plain. Large bows or headbands that have large items attached need to be kept for special occasions like Mufti days.
  • Hair that passes the collar needs to be tied up to reduce distraction during learning and to reduce the possibility of head lice being passed from child to child. If your child comes to school without their hair tied up, we have a supply of (new) hair ties that we will use to tie hair up.
  • Shoes - all school shoes need to be suitable for active activities such as running and games. Open toed sandals, skater shoes with wheels, and canvas sneakers are not part of our school uniform policy.
