The Busy Life of a Year 7/8 Student
Here's how the week has been in Week 3.
Open Evening
On Tuesday night we held our Year 7/8 Open Evening. We had a huge turn out to see what we offer in the Year 7/8 Hub.
We had an amazing group of eight students who presented to the 70+ group of parents that attended the night. We were so proud of the group. They were able to answer all of the questions that they were posed, there was no hesitation and all students were confident in the answers that they provided.
We would like to thank them for their efforts as they truly made our programme shine.
St John
Throughout the day on Wednesday, the Year 7/8 Hub had the opportunity to engage in the St John Programme.
They learned about:
D - Dangers - Students has to identify dangers
R - Response - Students learned how to get a response some someone who was unresponsive.
S - Send for help - Student identified how they can get help in any situation.
A - Airway - Students learned how to sweep the mouth and also check that the airway is clear.
B - Breathing - Students learned to check the airway for 10 seconds
C - C P R - Students learned how to administer CPR on a paitent.
D - AED - Students learned about a defibrillator and how to use it.
Info Literacy
This was the last week for students to complete their learning around searching the World Wide Web.
Students learned about how to search effectively using Boolean Operators. These are AND, NOT and OR. This allows students to search using keywords, omit words and combine like terms.
We also looked into the skill of summarising. Students were asked to practice the skill of summarising on a digital text, followed by the information that they had accessed for their own research.
The last skill we taught the students was how to analyse a website to see if the information that they have is accurate or incorrect.
