Te Hapua Robotics and Coding
7/8 LM will be visiting Te Hapua each Friday until the end of term 3 to take part in a Robotics and Coding Programme.
As part of meeting our requirements to teach Digital Technologies in the NZ Curriculum, all Year 7/8 students take part in a term of robotics and coding at Te Hapua.
We are very lucky to have such a fabulous facility on our door step. Te Hapua has a range of different Digital Technology resources that students are able to access as well as some very skilled educators who deliver an engaging Digital Technology programme.
Last week saw one group working on programming Lego Mindstorm Robots. The students had a range of programming challenges ranging from easy to extremely complex. It was great to see students working together and problem solving each programming challenge.
The other group worked with Makey Makey and Scratch to programme/code a piano that played the theme song from Star Wars. This challenge also required students to work together and problem solve and de bug in order to be able to complete the task. Students will continue to work on these challenges over the coming weeks.
Read below to see what the students thought about their experience:
Hannah: I had lot’s of fun at Te Hapua especially when we were trying to get a robot to got around the moon.
Zara: I think Te Hapua is really fun and I like learning how to move the robots around.
Annabel: I think it was fun making and playing the piano made with the play dough and it was fun coding.
Xiyi: I think Te Hapua is really fun and I really enjoyed learning how to control the robots, even though it was a bit challenging.
