Vodafone Warriors visit Oaklands
Last Friday we had a visit from the Vodafone Warriors, as they made a whirlwind tour of local schools during the bye weekend, with no games being played due to Sunday's State Of Origin game.
Given the large number of students who play rugby league, mostly for the local Halswell Hornets, the crew at the Vodafone Warriors were keen to come and visit.
Bringing along their own cameraman, a member of both the men's and woman's warriors teams talked to us about the importance for them, and also us, of sleep, hydration and nutrition.
Students were split into two teams with each having a chant based on the player's name. The loudest side earned the right to answer the trivia question, with one lucky student each time receiving a small gift from the Warriors players.
The sides were led by Sam and Zar.
When the presentation in the hall was finished, a group of students went outside to join the Warriors players for an activity, with the Year 1-4 doing a series of court-based activities, and the Year 5-8 students getting into a game of touch rugby.
And as always, we ended with a photo op, a chance for students to get a photo with a professional sportsperson, and dream of the day when they can be the one visiting schools.
