My name is Chris Smith and this is my fifth year teaching at Oaklands.  I teach Reading Recovery and I also work with the English language learners and their families.  I am passionate about education and I have been teaching a long time, both in New Zealand and overseas.  I have taught students from New Entrant level to Year 9, as well as having had several management positions.  I am married to John and we have two daughters and two grandchildren.  Outside of school, my interests are many and varied - I enjoy travelling, walking and tramping, reading, gardening, movies and spending time with family and friends.  I especially enjoy a nice coffee in one of our many cafes in the city.
