Koru design art

Danny Hillary —

Over the past 2 weeks all of the children have been working on some koru art.

We began this learning experience by looking at the meaning of koru and the children found out that.... the koru (Maori word for loop) is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolising new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol of Maori art, carvings and tattoos.

The children then looked at some examples and then began planning their own in pencil. After they had their outline the used pencil, crayon or jovi to add colour. The finishing touch was to outline in vivid.
