BYOD - IPads

Getting the most out of an iPad at Oaklands School

We have had a great number of students taking the option of Bring Your Own Device to School (BYOD). One of the most popular options has been iPads. For those bringing iPads to school we recommend:

  • Set up your child's school email on the device. This makes it easier for students to share learning and receive information from teachers. In addition, all of the student's emails are tracked by their teacher via Hapara Dashboard where every email a child receives, creates/sends and deletes is visible to the teacher.
  • Download these five free apps - Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets and Blogger. Furthermore, log into these apps using you child's school email and password. All the Kauri Students have their own Google Apps accounts which are used extensively. These apps will help your child use them easily on their device. And once again all of the docs created etc are visible to their teacher via Hapara Dashboard.
  • The last recommendation comes under the "nice to have but not essential" category. The Explain Everything App is a great app for children to show their learning. The staff this year will be receiving Professional Development around using this app. The app cost $5.99 at the App Store.

The first two steps will make your child's experience at using their iPad at school a positive one.
