Changing from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3.

Lance Muller —

What does this mean, in practice, for Oaklands School?

Kia Ora Year 7/8 Whanau

Many of you will be wondering what Level 3 will look like in terms of schooling.

Please read all of the information in this blog post. It should answer some of the questions that you may have and will also assist us with our transition to Level 3 at school.

New Zealand moves to alert Level 3 at 11:59pm on Monday 27 April.

  • By now you should have all completed a survey to let us know if your child will be returning to school at Alert Level 3. If you have not yet done this, please do so ASAP. You can find the survey at this link.

  • Monday 27 April is a public holiday - recognition of ANZAC DAY.

  • Tuesday 28 April has been set aside as a Nationwide Teacher Only Day, to give schools time to plan and prepare.

  • There will be NO distance learning programme timetabled for these two days.

  • Schools will reopen on Wednesday 29 April. Please note that as per Government advice, students should stay at home and learn from home; if they are able to.

  • For personal health reasons the three Year 7/8 Teachers are not able to return to school at Level 3. There will be a staff member allocated to the year 7/8 Hub in our absence. At this stage we do not know who this will be.

  • All students ( at school and at home) will continue with the Distance Learning Programme. Please see our other blog post for all of the timetables and links needed for Distance Learning for next week. The staff member at school will support us in the implementation of this programme; but we will continue to plan and lead this.

The following is a copy of the information that was sent out in the school newsletter this week. Please have a read.

At Alert Level 3, the Government advises only students who are not able to continue learning from home should return to schools after they reopen from Wednesday 29th April. You can extend your bubble with other family members to help with child care.

It is important to note, children returning to school will be following the same programme as those learning from home. Home learning resources will continue to be available for your child on their Hub Blog.

Some staff may not be able to be on site and will continue to work from home.

For those students returning to school, there will be new health measures in place to keep them safe:

  • Students will be required to stay 2 metres away from each other and teachers during the school day.

  • Gates will be opened at 8.45am to support social distancing.

  • Students are to go straight to their allocated hub

  • Parents are not permitted on the school grounds or in the classrooms or office space during Alert Level 3

The teachers will bring students to the entrances after school.

To minimise the number of children we will stagger the finish time. Kakano students will finish school at 2.45pm and parents can pick them up at the school gates. Kauri students will leave at 3.00pm.

For families with Kakano and Kauri students the Kauri students will be able to leave at 2.45pm with their younger sibling.

Students are to bring:

A named water bottle (drinking fountains will not be available)

A box of tissues

Their own named lunch box

Must wear school uniform

The students will have shortened break times and will not be able to use the playground, any equipment or any other sports gear to ensure that social distancing is observed and there is no sharing of equipment.

All students attending must have a clean bill of health-no colds, runny noses, coughs temperatures, sneezes etc.

The office will be closed and the sick bay will not be open during Level 3. Any child who becomes sick will require an adult to come and get them.

Thank you for your support.
