Jump Jam 2022

Toni Booth —

"Who would have thought Jump Jam could be so serious"

When you're running two afterschool and holiday pieces of training a week, it tends to head that way. First off, I would like to extend a massive thank you and congratulations to all students and whānau for making it to the end of what has been 2 terms of serious dedication and commitment.

It started as a brief idea. After some very successful Friday afternoon Jump Jam sessions with Taiheke, Mr Brown decided to approach Mrs. Trotter about the idea, who gave us the all clear. Due to this being a completely last-minute idea, the turnaround for our first competition was very tight, and the training schedule was intense. This was a great success with:

Year 8 team taking out 3rd place

  • Technical Excellence
  • Presentation Excellence

Year 7 team taking out 2nd place.

  • Technical Excellence
  • Presentation Excellence

At this point, we thought this was the end of the road and were happy with our success. Next thing you know, an invitation to the national comp. Woohoo. Let the training begin. We knew we had to up our routine, with many technical and vocal changes made. The pressure was high and so were the nerves. It was very heartwarming to see the collective feeling of support and encouragement from both teams. Here are the results from the South Island national comp.

Year 8 fourth place:

  • Technical Excellence
  • Presentation Excellence

Year 7 first place:

  • Technical Excellence
  • Presentation Distinction

This Saturday is the North Island National Comp. Once the scores from both competitions are compared we will know our placings nationally. We look forward to introducing these teams next year.
