Gymnastics!

Brooklyn Pupich —

For the P.E. component in Year 1 this term we are focusing on gymnastics.

Gymnastics at a Year 1 level our main focus' are learning to make sequences, balancing and rolling.

This means for 1RPH and 1BP we are looking to make stretch shapes (stretch, tuck, straddle and pike) as a transition into rolling. And then putting these in to sequences and patterns.
For 1SK and 1CG this means using our body muscles to hold our balance as we perform different rolls and shapes which we have made into sequences.

This week, the students in 1RPH and 1BP learnt their shapes and also how to pencil roll. The students we able to following instructions - being able to pick a stretch shape, pencil roll along the mat, and finish in a  stretch shape.

We are lucky in our Year 1 Hub to have students who learn gymnastics outside of school who are excellent role models and can help students who need extra support.

It is important that children learn gymnastics skills to help increase strength, agility, flexibility, endurance and artistry.
