It did not look promising when we awoke to the sight of weather we would expect to see mid-winter. However, the weather ended up being on our side, as it cleared into an excellent day to hold our Run/Bike/Run event.

With the help of an outstanding group of senior students led by Sport leader Amelia Bunn, the course at Westlake Park was set up in record time.

After putting their bikes into the 'transition zone', completing athletes moved to the 'athletes' area to get prepared for their race. This year we raced year 5 and 6 together, with staggered starts to spread out the field.

An initial run around the pathway bordering the lake was followed by two laps cycling around the pathway of the playing fields and lake, culminating in a final leg run around the playing fields.

Competition for places was high as students fought on with both their personal challenge to finish, and the offer of places in the school team for the Canterbury Duathlon (Monday 26th September) on offer.

A wonderful day was had by all, and it was pleasing to see students doing their best, and then cheering on the other competitors.

We will be entering students into the upcoming Canterbury Duathlon to be raced at Ruapuna Raceway (Mike Pero Motorsport Park) on Monday 26th September. We are able to enter up to 12 students in year 5 and 12 in year 6.

Wig Wednesday

On Wednesday students, teachers and staff donned their best hairdo to help raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation. There were many interesting and colourful hairdos with a number of students making an outstanding effort to colour coordinate both their hair and their clothing.

Here are couple of photos of Kōmingo students and teachers getting into the spirit of the event.

Maths and fitness

This week we decided to combine fitness and division basic facts into a game of 'Rob the Nest'. Teams had to answer a division basic fact before they collect a tennis ball or bean bag by hopping, bounding, or crawling to another group's stash.

Here they are in action
