Preparation and Practice in Hub 4

Frances Dench —

This week Hub 4 have been busy preparing their Student Led conference booklets and work for next week. We have enjoyed two fun sessions of swimming and have been tightening up our moves in preparation for the Gala.

Literacy

This week students in Reading groups Whio and Kōkako read the journal story The Parapara Detectives. They had to think critically and list the pro's and con's of cutting down the Parapara trees. Here is a summary of the article and an example of a students pro's and con's.

Dylan's summary: The Parapara Detectives is about a group of kids investigating the Parapara tree. They found out that the Parapara tree was catching lots of birds, some of them even ending up getting killed. But a good thing was that it caught bad insects as well as birds. In the end, the group decided to cut down the trees.

Integrated Learning Information reports

Below you will find Hiba and Shaheena's information reports on a Native New Zealand animal. We have been learning the skills of researching, note taking, layout of report including sub headings and making it interesting for the reader to look at.

Shaheena - The Hoiho

Maths

This week Master Minds have been learning how to order fractions with the denominators that are multiples. We had to convert the fractions so the all have the same denominator then order the original fraction.

Student Led Conferences

This week most of our learning time has been working on our preparation for student led conferences which are being held Monday/Tuesday evening next week. We have been writing our script, looking at our favourite parts of working in Huatau, reflecting on the progress we have made this year and practicing reading what we have written with buddies. We look forward to seeing whanau next week!

Swimming

Today we had swimming again with our swim coaches. We were learning about floating and kicking on our backs with a kick board and with/or without out hands above our heads. See photos below.

Please remember that the teacher needs to receive an email or note as to why your child is not swimming as this is a part of the curriculum.

You can find more photos of swimming below.

CARE ticks/challenges

Nominations close off at the end of next week, so if students have challenges to finish at home please do so and bring some evidence of what you have done to school before next Friday. Evidence could be a photo, email from parent to teacher, example of what you did etc.
