Health

We concluded our Health unit this week with 3 sessions. The new resource is very comprehensive, and we are now in a position to evaluate the programme for future use.

Mathematics

We wrapped up our measurement - mass learning this week. Students have covered a range of learning intentions including converting grams into kilograms (and vice versa), measuring a range of objects, using addition/subtraction/multiplication and division strategies to solve a range of mass problems. converting between metric and imperial/US standard measures.

Arts

We finished up our arts rotation this week with 2 sessions of visual art, drama or music. Over the course of the year students have taken part in all 3 element of our Arts programme, and we also covered some dance as part of our gala performance.

40 Book Challenge

Students who completed the 40 Book Challenge met with Mrs Fuller to brainstorm, and then plan out their reward. They will be taking part in their reward session on Thursday of week 10. Well done to all those who achieved the goal or reading and logging at least 40 books, across a wide variety of genre.

Food for Thought

This week, on Wednesday, each whānau class got together to share the food purchased from the voucher we received as part of the Food for Thought programme. Students mucked in and helped with food preparation, and then we sat down to share some delicious kai. We ticked off a lot of the 'often/healthy food' and a couple of 'occasional' treats.

MathsWhizz Superstar

This Friday a number of students received a Maths Whizz Superstar certificate. Here they are receiving their certificates.

Fun Day Friday

During the week a group of students joined Mr Forman with planning some fun outdoor activities for Friday afternoon. The learning intention was: fun.

We ran a waterslide, obstacle course, and a rather messy activity involving dunking your face in a container searching for some treats, as well as dunking your head in flour in search of a marshmallow - all in the name of having some fun.

As you can see from some of the photos, it got a bit messy.

Transition Days

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday see students taking part in our transition programme. This is a chance for students and teachers who will be together in 2020 to meet and get to know each other.

Students who are not returning to Oaklands in 2020 will be involved in a programme for this time.

Thursday

We will be back with our regular class and hub on Thursday. There is a Kāuri Prize Giving on Thursday afternoon.

Friday

Is the last day of the 2019 academic year. There is a final assembly at 11:30am. Students are released at 12:30pm, to begin the summer holidays.

On behalf of Steve and Rebecca and myself, we wish you a relaxing and safe holiday period. We have really enjoyed working alongside you and your child for the last 2 years. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be part of their journey.
