Welcome back to term 3!
Read on for some information about the learning for term 3, some important dates and our timetable for this week.
Welcome back to Term 3!
Hope you have all had a great holiday and are ready to start the new term!
Integrated Learning
This Term for Integrated Learning our focus is on transitioning from our old space into our new space. Our big question is… How can we successfully transition to our new Hub? We will be looking at possible ideas for furniture, and putting together systems and routines for our new space. We will be using the Y7 and 8 hub on Tuesdays to work on these together, collaboratively as the year 7 and 8 students will be at technology during this time. This will give us an idea of how the new space will work and how we can make our move to our new space successful. We will also be looking at how we can ensure our space is sustainable and design a system for recycling within our Hub.
Literacy
This term we will be introducing new literacy classes. Students will be grouped based on a variety of goals that they are working on. These range from comprehension, sentence structure, vocabulary, the writing process, paragraphs, written language features and word study around sounds and spelling. Students will be introduced to their new classes on Thursday this week.
Maths
This term we will transition from multiplication to division. We will also continue improving our recall time of multiplication facts. We will then move into time and measurement.
This weeks Timetable:
Important dates
-Teacher Only Day - Monday 20th
-Cross country - Wednesday 22nd pm for students who have entered
-Winter Sport- Begins this Thursday. All competition games begin at 1:15pm at various locations in South Hagley.
Home Learning expectations.
A reminder that students should be spending a total of 60 minutes a week on Maths Whizz as part of their home learning. They should also be regularly updating their 40 book challenge.
CARE
Students are able to update their CARE challenges by accessing this on their Google Classroom. This way they can link up evidence of the challenge that they have completed towards their silver. When they have finished their challenges they can then turn it in for their teacher to check. If students prefer a paper copy of the challenges to put in their CARE book they can ask their teacher for one at school.
Parent helpers
It is awesome to get parents involved in students' learning. If anyone would be interested in coming in during the week and helping out in any way please talk to one of the hub 6 teachers. You are always welcome!
Ways you can support students include:
Reading with them; listening to them read and helping with pronunciation and talking about the text; listening to students share their writing and giving them feedback on their goals; helping with maths times tables games using playing cards and maths tables/division cards. There are so many ways you can help.
Winter Sport starting Thursday
Yay it is that time of year! Winter sport is starting up on Thursday. Please ensure you have returned any forms that were sent out at the end of last term if your student made a winter sports team. A reminder that if students require gear e.g. mouth guard that they bring it with them on Thursday. Teams will be getting their uniforms this week.
See you all next week,
Mrs Fuller, Mr Muirhead and Mr Forman
