This term students from Year 1 - 8 will take part in the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme developed by NZ Police.
Keeping Ourselves Safe enables children and young people to learn and apply a range of safety skills that they can use when interacting with others. Students learn to recognize the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and those who have been or are being abused are encouraged to seek help.
Keeping Ourselves Safe fits well with our Term One focus of Building Healthy Communities and integrates well with our literacy programmes. During Keeping Ourselves Safe lessons students have the opportunity to discuss their ideas and thoughts with others, view videos and stories about staying safe and record their thinking in journals and on templates from the kit.
Towards the end of the term Jessica Young, our local Police liaison officer, will visit classes to deliver one of the lessons from the programme. She will also be running a parent meeting on Wednesday, 3rd March at 2:20pm in Ripo (space by the sandpit with the deck) and all parents are welcome to attend to find out more about the programme.
