Oaklands School Literacy Week 2018 5 - 9 November - Update
Wednesday 7 November: HEROES Dress Up Day. Come dressed as your hero (or superhero)
Literacy week is fast approaching. During the week students and staff will be getting involved with varied activities that recognise and celebrate our Heroes. We will spend some learning time identifying what a hero is, what qualities and characteristics they have and use. There will be opportunities for students to dress up as their hero on dress up day, to share who their hero is and why, to create their own superhero and to spot the heroes in operation at Oaklands School during that week.
Important dates for you to remember are;
Monday 5 November: Launch for the “HEROES” Literacy Week at School Assembly - 2pm. There may be a surprise visitor in the house!!!
Wednesday 7 November: HEROES Dress Up Day. Come dressed as your hero (or superhero). You may be able to bring a book that your hero is the star of OR you can share a paragraph that you have prepared that explains why that person/character is a hero. This could include a special quote from them.
Friday 9 November: The house that has received the most “HERO” cards for the week will receive their reward.
All Week: Staff and Student Leaders will hand out “HERO” cards for students spotted being a HERO in or out of the classroom. Students can nominate students who have been spotted being a “HERO”.
Competition Time:
During the week there will be several competitions operating:
Superhero Comic Strip competition - Design your own superhero and create a story about it in the form of a comic strip.
What’s your favourite place for reading? Send a photo of you in your favourite place for reading to your teacher for display and judging.
Create a superhero poster about “How to be an Oaklands Superhero”
Create and draw your own superhero.
“Where’s The HERO?” - find the hidden HEROES in the school.
