Heritage of Halswell
Halswell Lions’ contribution to BECA Heritage Week
“An expansive exhibition of historical photos and memorabilia of the greater Halswell district since 1840 up until the 1960’s.”
This Community Service is being presented by the Halswell and District Lions Club.
A section of this collection includes many invaluable works by our pioneer Halswell Historian, the late Doug Ridder, and also pioneer Photographer V.C.Browne (Lyal). These works are a true and accurate record of our early settlers and our district.
Records and photos of the Halswell Quarry, local schools, churches and sporting clubs, pioneer families, buildings, development and industries through the ages.
The collection includes material compiled over many years by one of our Halswell Lions club members - Heritage Chairman, John Moore - who has been actively involved in preparing this material on show. John grew up in Banks Peninsula and has been a well-known member and resident of Halswell for many years and former Park Ranger at The Halswell Quarry.
We invite everyone to attend, young and old, including schools, Rest homes, local residents and all who are interested in our New Zealand and local History and genealogy tracing. A truly marvellous collection for all to view.
Any additional Historical photos or notes or items would be welcome. (ph 03 322 7174)
