Back to 'almost normal' in the Year 7/8 Hub.

Lance Muller —

It has been great to see most of the Year 7/8 hub settling quickly back in to life at Oaklands.

Frequent hand sanitising, trying to maintain some physical distance and no sports gear in circulation aside, things are feeling reasonably ' normal' in the Year 7/8 Hub. It has been great to see most of the students settling quickly back into routine and we are looking forward to getting stuck into some more learning over the course of the next few weeks.

Technology Programme.

This has run as an outreach programme for the last two weeks with 5 teachers from Lincoln coming to us to teach a variety of interesting and fun activities. Students have been involved in art and design activities, emoji design and craft, menu planning and construction of  a Zoetrope and also a Newton's Disc. Be sure to ask your child what they have been up to.

Next week we will be back to normal with students travelling on buses out to Lincoln each Tuesday.

Buddy Time

This week we helped the Year 1 and 2 students complete a survey about their Distance Learning experience. It was great to re connect with our junior buddies. We have missed our regular catch ups with them. We are excited about doing more with them as the term progresses.

Kelly Sports Coaching

This week we had the first of many sessions with a visiting Kelly Sports Coach. We are learning games to use during fitness and playtime. In particular games that do not require any equipment. It has been great to see all of the students getting involved.

Well Being in the Year 7/8 Hub

We have been continuing to focus on trying not to sweat the small stuff. As well as this we have been having a daily focus on kindness. In particular, the fact that kindness is contagious. Also, that we each have a part to play in ensuring that we are kind to both ourselves and others, as often as possible. Below are three of the videos that have generated a lot of discussion this week.

Collaborative Art

We have also created a number of fabulous art works to decorate and brighten our space. We have drawn inspiration for our art works from two whakatuaki that we have chosen to guide us through this time..........

Whiria te tangata - weave the people together.

He waka eke noa - we are all in this together.

The students have embraced the idea that we all need to get back into  our ' waka'  together and paddle as one. We look forward to sharing our art works with you in the future.

Hero Student Profiles.

This Friday your child will bring home their Hero Student Profile Sheet, please ask them to see this. It will be in their bag. Please read and make any changes or updates to this information as necessary and send back to the Hub Teachers before Friday 5th June. Please return all forms,  even if there are no changes/ updates that have been made.

As always, please feel free to contact us at any time using our year7and8hub@oaklands.school.nz email address. This reaches all three teachers.

Warm regards

Lance, Sarah and Bryan.
