Covid - Omicron update

Margaret Trotter —

The school and teachers have been busy reviewing our health and safety procedures to ensure the safety of all students and staff as everyone returns to school. All schools will be open.

The key points are:

  • Students must be dropped off at the school gates.  These will be unlocked at 8.30am and will be unlocked again at 3pm each day.
  • If you need to come onsite please use the Cunningham Place entrance, sanitise, use the QR code, sign in, wear a mask and remember social distancing.
  • Parents of new enrolments will need to come to the school office to sign in and will then be able to take their child to class but will not be able to go inside.
  • Scan in with QR code at the school entrance and then come to the  office to sign in if you need to come onsite.
  • Parents can not go into the classrooms.
  • Parents can contact the teachers  to organise a meeting.
  • All adults must wear a mask. Children from Year 4 are required to wear a mask at school.
  • All students from year 4 must  wear a mask.  Year 4-8 is mandatory and we would appreciate year 3 students also wear them due to it being a class of mixed level.
  • Please use the sanitisers to keep safe when you come on to the school site.
  • Playgrounds will be closed before and after school.
  • All students must have a named drink bottle to enable your child to keep hydrated.  The drinking fountains will be closed.  Students can refill their water bottles in the kitchen areas of the learning spaces.

The Omicron variant has caused  major disruption to schooling overseas.

From a child-centred perspective, the goal is  to protect children from both direct and indirect harms from the pandemic.

The direct harm is   Covid-19 illness among children and their whānau. Indirect harms include educational impacts, social isolation and loneliness, financial strain and family stress – all of which children can experience during isolation or school closures.  The Ministry of Education goal is to keep school's open.
