Year 7 Camp at Wainui
The Year 7s visited Wainui in Term 1 where they completed activities such as kayaking, high ropes and coasteering.
This year the Year 7s went to Wainui.
We were involved in Coaststeering, High ropes, Cooperative games, Archery and Kayaking.
In the afternoon/night we played Bang, Spotlight, Predator, Go home stay home, Look up look down, Grass Ski’s, Action Auction on the last day and lots of pranks.
In the day we did all the set activities. At Coaststeering we started off by playing Duck Duck Goose. After that we had to rub mud on our faces because it was “sunscreen”. Once we had down that we walked around the island while jumping off rocks into the water and looking at rock pools. The best part was jumping off the rock which was 5-6 metres high.
At High ropes we started off by learning how to keep safe on them. Once we had done that we got to go on the ropes. There were 4 different ropes you could climb Wrecking ball, Giants ladder, Obstacle course and High wire. We got to climb these for half an hour.
At Cooperative Games the first activity involved groups of three trying to hit cups filled with water using sports equipment and grass skis. The next activity was an obstacle course that involved taking a bucket of water around Wainui and the group with the most water at the finish line won. The final activity was a free-for-all water fight.
At Archery the first thing we did was learn how to use the bow and arrow. Next we got to have a go shooting it. After that we played heaps of game like Speed archery, Beat your partner by getting it closer to the bulls eye and a competition versing everyone.
At Kayaking we got to kayak around the bay. Next we played Piano tiles which is when you run across the kayaks when they’re in a row. The person that got the furthest won. The last game we played was rob the nest which is where you steal rocks from other people’s kayaks.
At night we played lots of games. The first games we played were inside. Bang was the first game we played. You play this by someone being in the middle saying one name at a time and if your name is called you’ve got to duck down while the people beside you try to shoot each other and say bang.
The next game we played was Look up, look down. You play this by everyone standing in a circle and when the teacher says look up you had to look at someone in the room. When they say look down you have to look at the ground. If the person you’re looking at is looking at you too you are both out. The aim of the game is to not make eye contact with anyone else. On the last day it was raining so instead of doing our last rotation we got to play Action Auction. In Action Auction the aim of the game was to get as many points as possible by completing random challenges with only three objects from every person in the group. Our favourite activity was when the group had to nominate someone to propose to one of the judges (teachers).
At night we also played games outdoors. The first game we played was Spotlight. You play this by choosing some people to be in. You give them a torch and then everyone goes and hides. The people in then have to find everyone by shining the light on them.
The next game we played was Predator. In Predator one person is in and they crouch down on the ground like a turtle. Everyone else goes and hides. The person in then shouts things like say your favourite colour or your favourite animal to see where everyone is. If the person in says your name and where you are hiding and they are correct you are out. If the person in can’t see anyone they will shout Countdown and crouch down into the turtle position. The people hiding have to run and touch their back and hide again before the countdown is finished. If you don’t hide before the countdown is up it is likely they will see you and you will be out.
To play go home stay home you have 5 taggers that stand in the middle of the of the playing area and shout out go home stay home. When the taggers are getting ready everyone else goes and hides. When the taggers shout out go home stay home you try and get to the base which in our case was the picnic table. If you get there without being tag you say go home stay home 1,2,3.
For the Grass Ski’s you hold them together and sit on them while going down the hill.
I enjoyed High ropes and Predator. Something else I enjoyed was going on the big Flying Fox.The funniest thing were the pranks the teachers played on us. (Hannah Hanson)
