Week 7 Term 2 In Review

Mark Sy —

Check out what’s been happening in Hub 4 this week

Literacy

In Miss B’s Literacy Class this week we have been focusing on writing an interesting and exciting introduction that will hook our readers in and make them want to read our information reports. We have also looked at how we can sum up our reports and leave our readers pondering a thought or answering a question. We are now working on constructing our information report, putting all the pieces together.

In Mr Reed’s Literacy Class this week we have been finishing and publishing our Information Reports about different aspects of our Orana Wildlife Park Visit. With our reading this week we have been identifying the different areas of Information articles.

In Mr Sy’s Literacy Class we have been working on continuing to develop our knowledge of individual letters as well as digraphs, a combination of two letters representing one sound.

Numeracy

In Mr Reed’s Maths Class this week we have begun to investigate the Maths strand of Geometry. We have been looking into 2D and 3D shapes by naming them and identifying the different components that make them up.

In Miss B’s Maths Class this week we have started to explore the Maths strand of Geometry. We kicked this off by looking at 2D shapes and 3D solids. We also explored tessellations.

In Mr Sy’s Maths Class we have dived into the Math strand of Geometry. During this week we have been learning about 2 dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. One of the groups also learned how to use a protractor and a compass.

M3 Mindfulness in Hub 4

Students have been enjoying the M3 Mindfulness programme in the afternoons. The programme focuses on Mindfulness through Movement and Māori Legends. Check out the photos below.

Cold Weather and Sniffly Noses

The cold season is upon us and so is the season for sniffly noses. If you can spare Hub 4 any tissue boxes, this would be greatly appreciated.

Student-Led Conference

School finishes at 3 pm as normal on both days of Student Led Conferences. The site for booking the conferences is: https://www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and the code to book your Student Led Conference is: 9zhr8

Bookings will open on Friday 14 June at 3.30pm and will be live until Thursday 20 June.

Hub 4 Mornings and Openings

Morning meetings are a part of how we maintain our Hubs running smoothly. Hub 4 and 5 meet from 8-8: 30 am every Wednesdays and 8:15-8: 30 am on Fridays. Due to these meetings, Rooms 9, 10 and 11 will be closed until a teacher is present in the room. It is for the children’s health and safety not to be inside a classroom unsupervised. We really appreciate the children who have been following the school rule of not entering a room without a teacher. Wananei Hub 4!

Integrated Topic

Hub 4 is now up to our Taking Action stage for our inquiry learning. This week we the children got to pick what path they would take to showcase what they have learned.
