Jennifer - I enjoyed researching about different landmarks and the history behind them.

Amber - My favourite challenge was baking chocolate chip cookies and giving them to my neighbours.

Missy - My favourite challenge was making a shoe rack with my dad during lockdown.

Rose B - My favourite challenge to do was preparing two 3 course meals for my family because it was fun to make them and they were really yummy.

Literacy - Writing

Below is an example of Zubia's writing to the Ministry of Education about the buses that are supplied to transport the students to technology.

Greetings, I'm Zubia, a senior from Oaklands School that goes to technology on Tuesday, (THE WORST DAY EVER)!! I am writing this because the seniors need a third bus to go to Lincoln for technology. PLEASE we NEED another bus! The buses are NOISY, CRAMPED and worst of all UNSAFE! By the end of reading this, I'm sure you would want us to have a third bus too.

Buses are too noisy!!

I am writing this because our school buses are way too noisy! Genuinely. It's way too loud because YOU won't give us a third bus for technology. Our buses are too deafening, you could get a headache! Well I have had a headache on the bus because of the noise, and the driver can also get distracted with all the noise. Do you know one time the bus driver had to pull over because we were too loud! That is so dangerous! Now let me tell you how unsafe it is to have only 2 buses for the seniors to go to technology.

Buses are unsafe!!

Do you know how dangerous it is to have 50 people on one bus? Well, let me tell you how risky it is! The seniors at Oaklands School have to have one HAZARDOUS bus ride to Lincoln. First of all, because of COVID-19, we have to social distance but we can’t because YOU won't give us a third bus. Second thing, we have to fit three to a seat, and it is really hard because one person has to put most of their body in the aisle because there is not enough space on the seat. Last off, if the driver does a speed brake, people could just have a bad accident in general. Can you imagine having to sit three to a seat in a bus especially when COVID-19 is around? Well just imagine how cramped that would be! Well, really you don’t need to imagine! I’ll tell you how it feels, the seniors at Oaklands have to experience it every Tuesday!

Buses are cramped!!!

It is SO cramped with 50 people on the bus at a time I have to share with 2 people and it’s REALLY hard, we have to take turns for who is sitting in the aisle, that’s how hard it is! There’s even 7 people that don’t have seats on the bus because there’s not enough space! And worst of all we have to have a seating plan so people don’t take a whole seat to themselves because there is not enough room for everyone!!

Overall, it may be said. The seniors at Oaklands School NEED a third bus! How could you not agree with us? I would have given that third bus to the seniors ages ago! Why wouldn’t I? There’s no real reason not too.

Yours sincerely,

Zubia Banoori
