Technology at Lincoln

Lance Muller —

As always the Year 7/8 students have been very busy at Technology.

The trip to Lincoln each Tuesday is a highlight for many of the Year 7/8 students. Students rotate through Food Technology, Woodwork, Science and Design and Textiles. As well as this they  complete a half an hour session of Mandarin each week.

Today I had the pleasure of seeing what the students were up to. My visit to the Science Room found students busy constructing towers using pasta and marshmallows. Apparently a tetrahedron is the best shape for building towers out of these materials. In Food Technology I discovered many excited students making vanilla sponge cakes in a cup. I also had the pleasure of a taste test. Yummo! Look out parents. I imagine these will be re created at home.

In the workshop students were busy sanding handles for the trays that they are making. They assure me that these trays will be used for many breakfasts in bed.  In design and textiles I sat in on a very interesting discussion about repurposing old objects. In particular an old bicycle. I look forward to see what ideas they come up with.
