Yr 7/8 Hub Sports Tournament.

Lance Muller —

This week should have seen most of the year 7/8 Hub competing at the Koru Games.

Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control prevented us from participating this year. The cancellation of the event was disappointing but not insurmountable and we chose to hold our own Year 7/8 Hub Sports Tournament instead.

We selected three sports to play in our tournament. These were Turbo Touch, Football and Capture the Flag. Games were modified and adapted to ensure maximum participation and involvement by everyone. Six teams were formed and we got stuck into some competition.

It was great to everyone getting involved. It was especially pleasing to see the students supporting and encouraging each other during games.

Below are some student reflections of our Sports Tournament.

Name: Dishti Mudaliar

My reflections: I really enjoyed turbo touch the most at our very own Koru Games tournament. We got to play different types of games and improve our fitness and everyone played fair and had a really good time. People who didn’t know how to play football or even normal touch still gave it a go and everyone loved to play capture the flag the most.I think everyone should thank our teachers because they went out of their way to make the 7/8's their very own Koru Games.

Name: Charlie Barnes

My reflections: My favourite part of doing the Koru Games at school was playing capture the flag. All the games were really fun and everyone got to be included. I enjoyed the games even when my team lost.

Name: Ashley Young

My reflections: I really liked the sports that the year7/8 hub has been doing this week. The one that I liked the best was capture the flag because you could all be on at the same time.

Name: Lanica Schnetler

My reflections: My reflections on the sports tournament were amazing. I really loved playing Capture the flag. It was such a close and competitive game which sometimes can be bad but in this case it was really good and I really liked playing all the varieties of sport. I hope we can do it again because It was such an awesome and heartwarming experience.Thanks. 😁

Name: Kyra Cattermole

My reflections: I really enjoyed Turbo Touch because I got to learn how to play touch when I have never played before. I also enjoyed playing capture to flag because I was one of the people in my team who were saving people when they got tagged by the opposing team.

Name: Erica Yin

My reflections: Even though Koru Games may have been cancelled, our teachers have given us an opportunity to have awesome sessions of fun sports. This included Turbo Touch, Capture the Flag and lastly Football. What I really enjoyed about this sports tournament was the team spirit. My team was called the Willy Wonkas and we had awesome team spirit even if we didn’t win our match. My favourite was either Capture the Flag or Turbo Touch both being a spectacular match of fun. Overall this was a great experience, and even though Koru Games was indeed cancelled it was a fun experience for our hub.

Name: Winston Woolford

My reflections: During the sports tournament, I’ve enjoyed playing with others I may not actually hang out with. I’ve enjoyed socialising with my team and finding good ways to strategise. My favourite games during this session were: Football and Capture the flag. We won 1 football match alongside capture the flag. Some of the best moments that i’ve played were Capture the flag where we held defence the entire match giving us 3 points. Football was fun as we scored multiple goals.

Name: Morgan Leoni

My reflections: I really enjoyed the sports competition. It was a very fun experience. I really liked capture the flag because we all got involved and it didn't matter how good or fast you were to still get the flags. It was really good working in my team because we all worked together and in some games we won. Soccer was also really fun because we worked well and I even got to assist for most of our goals. The other sport we played was turbo touch. It was funny when half the time we would crash into each other. The competition was a good way to challenge and vs our friends also to socialize and become friends with new people. I really enjoyed it.

Name: Luke McIntosh

My reflections: I really enjoyed the competition. It was a fun way to socialise with everyone. My favourite game was Capture the flag because it involves a lot of strategy as well as speed. I also enjoyed football because not many people actually play football so it wasn’t too serious. Turbo Touch was funny because when you put a big twist like you can throw the ball forwards, it really changes the game. Overall, the sports competition was really cool and I can’t wait for the Koru Games next Year.

Name: Missy

My reflections: I enjoyed capture the flag because it was the only one I was good at. Some of my highlights were getting a try in turbo touch, Tagging people in turbo touch and capture the flag and coming up with strategies in capture the flag.

Name: Isabella L

My reflections: My favourite game was capture the flag because everyone got involved and tried their best, I also really enjoyed turbo touch because we won our second game. I really want to thank the teachers for doing this for us because Koru Games was cancelled.

Name: Avia

My reflections: Even though Koru Games was cancelled we still had a great time playing games at school. The three games we played were Turbo Touch, Football and Capture the flag. My Favourite game was Capture the flag. We got put into 6 teams and had our own little sports tournament. I would like to thank the teachers for putting together an amazing 3 days.

Name: Eva

My reflections: I may or may not have been upset that Koru Games had been cancelled but I still had a really good time with my team. I was really proud of my team for all collaborating well with everyone and we had a good time. Capture the flag was one of my favourites not only because it was fun mostly because my team didn't have a problem with each other.

Name: Keisha

My reflections: It was really upsetting that Koru games got cancelled but i'm glad we got to have our own sports competition. I really enjoyed capture the flag because everybody got involved and we had to use a lot of strategy to win. Turbo touch was fun but it was a little bit hard to get a point. Football was fun but it was hard to get the ball. I am very thankful to the teachers.

Name :Osian Wilson

My reflections: Even though the Koru Games have been cancelled the teachers have put together their own sports tournaments. There are three games, they are: Capture the flag, turbo touch and soccer. They put all of us in 6 different teams. I was in team two. I would like to thank the teachers for doing this for us.

Name:Esther Brocherie

My reflections:My reflections on the ⅞ hub sports tournament was awesome. My personal favourite was Capture the flag. It was really fun. The other two sports I didn’t really know how to play them but they were still really fun. I hope we can do it some other time. Thank you to all the teachers for taking time in to do this for us. 😊
