Week 2, Term 4

Bryan Brown —

We've hit the ground running, there's so much to look forward to in Term 4!

Uniquely NZ

On Thursday, we finished our first rotation of learning (four lessons), students have now moved onto their second rotation of learning.

The students have been enjoying their learning around Uniquely NZ. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how the past has shaped the current New Zealand that we live in and are now seeing how it will continue to impact New Zealand moving forward.

As students start to move through rotations of learning between NZ @ War, Documents that have shaped New Zealand and also Parliament, that are starting to make strong connections across timelines and also how they have all affected each other.

We look forward to the students sharing these with you in the Student Led Conferences.

Strand Maths

Term 4 has seen us move into Strand Mathematics, in particular, Geometry. Students are currently learning about 2D/3D shapes, attributes of shapes, transformation of shapes, coordinates and directions, angles, nets and linear equations. We will be continuing this for the next two weeks.

Athletics

This week the weather held out for us and we were able to have our Athletics competition at Oaklands. On Wednesday, it was great having our athletics competition back at Oaklands School. We loved seeing all of the students digging deep and doing the best that they could in their events.

On Thursday, we brought back some crowd favourites, the relay events. It was Pastoral Care Class vs Pastoral Care Class, mate against mate, teacher against teacher and house against house. BB won the Year 7/8 competition smashing LM and MS and Rata took out the house relay earning 200 points for the house competition.

Dance

Oaklands School is moving into the final stages of the rebuild. One of the last things that is getting rebuilt is the Hall. This means that we have no more opportunities to practice Dance in the Hall.

Mr Muller has been at hard work securing a place for us to practice in the community. He has been in contact with many places in the community and has been able to secure the Southwest Baptist Church for us to use for 2 hours a week. This is great news, we can now continue to prepare the students for the Formal at the end of the year. We are going to be giving the Church a donation as a thank you for being amazing and accommodating us as such a short time frame. We are asking that every student/family donate $2 so we are able to give them this donation at the end of our final dance session. Students can give this to anyone of the Year 7/8 teachers in the hub.

Korfball

This week started our second rotation of Korfball. It was an exciting time for students starting to join skills that they learned in the previous weeks with the skills learned this week.

Here's what they had to say:

Carter B - I have really enjoy playing Korfball this term because it is fun doing different things in the 7/8 hub and leaning new games.

Zoe - I enjoyed doing Korfball again this year because we got to re learn the skills that we did last year. I liked getting to try play and then add more rules so it got harder as it went.

Issy - I have really enjoyed playing Korfball in the Year 7/8 hub recently because it's so fun playing something different and learning new games.

Jex - I really enjoyed Korfball this year because I got to play more than I did last year. The coach explained every detail about the rules of the game and it made it really easy and fun. When I was playing I had more time with the ball and I felt really good.

Rose I - I enjoyed Korfball because it is a mix of Netball and Basketball and I enjoy playing both of those sports. I also like it because it is a completely new sport I hadn't learnt before until last year.
